Wood Cuts
This is a figure in contemplation. It’s one of those rare, comical moments where you find yourself wondering if what you’re doing makes sense at all.

A series of early woodcuts, done in 2003. I used the ‘reducing technique’ here, which means that the same plate is used several times. Each time more material is cut away, and every new image is printed exactly over the previous one, in a different tone, resulting in a complex layered image, run in very small editions of 10 to 12 prints.
These images in this series comment and even ridicule the traditional representation of objects in art: still lifes, landscapes, beach scenes. On the one hand, I feel attracted to these art forms, perhaps I would even like to return to them, but it can be, and I am aware of that. I experiment with traditional perspectives and coloring, and I did not conform to the conventions.

Self portrait
Some mistake this image of me with a portrait of van Gogh, and maybe they’re right. Van Gogh was an early source of inspiration for me.
